A Sperm Whale rises to the surface of the deep ocean after a deep dive to hunt for giant squid 2000ft below the surface.

Out of the blue, I noticed a dark shape rising up. I knew instantly that it was the world's largest predator, surfacing after hunting giant squid 2000ft below the surface. I dived down to photograph it as it rose up to take its first breath in over 45 minutes and as I did I noticed the remnants of tentacles in its mouth suggesting that it was a successful trip. Looking at this strange shape surfacing its hard to imagine that they have highly developed social brains that translate into deep emotions and family bonds.
